The last gay man to be fired from the forces?
A gay Royal Navy chef yesterday became almost certainly the last person to be sacked from the armed services on the grounds of their sexuality.
He was dismissed for being gay days before a European human rights court judgment widely expected to rule that the ban on homosexuals in the armed forces is illegal.
Richard Young, 25, a reservist at HMS Drake, the Devonport naval base, received his discharge papers in the post yesterday. If the ministry of defence immediately honours Monday's expected ruling, he should be the last serviceman or woman to be sacked for their sexuality.

Gay dating in Tasmania
Tasmania is a unique island with preserved nature and restricted industries. The state economy is focused on tourism, agriculture, aquaculture, and social services. The politics centered on LGBT rights verb many fissures in the island's society.
It is currently considered one of the most progressive states on paper. However, living as openly gay in Tasmania is still not the most pleasant experience considering that it was called “Bigots Island” just two decades ago. While many liberating policies have been implemented on the mention level, some remnants of hostility and animosity toward the LGBT community still remain.
Since Tasmania is predominantly formed by rural territories and national parks, entertainment options are limited outside of Hobart. Safe spaces exist. Many meetup groups regularly organize small-time events and work with friendly businesses. Nevertheless, gay dating in Tasmania is a challenge.
